Bronze Planters
Jermyn Street
Patinated bronze planters with inlaid brass detailing manufactured for The Crown Estate's St James's redevelopment.
About the project
Manufactured for The Crown Estate as part of the St James's redevelopment, these bespoke bronze planters were installed at the corner of Jermyn Street and Regent Street. The planters combined patinated bronze cladding, inlaid brass detailing and integrated planting systems within a highly detailed fabricated structure.
The planters were fabricated from 3mm bronze, with the decorative front elevations manufactured from 15 individual components to achieve the required relief detailing. Each section was welded and finished to create a seamless appearance, whilst brass strips were inlaid within recessed channels to form the contrasting horizontal and vertical features.
A key challenge of the project was achieving the required alignment across multiple planters within a prominent streetscape location. The horizontal brass bands were developed to maintain a continuous visual line along the street, whilst the vertical brass elements were positioned to align precisely with the window mullions of the surrounding buildings.
Each planter incorporated removable stainless steel planting liners, secured using concealed fixings to prevent theft whilst allowing off-site maintenance and replanting when required.
