Stone Clad Planters
Mayfair
Internal galvanised steel framework and integrated planter liners manufactured to support large-format stone cladding within a prestigious residential development in London's Mayfair.
About the project
Manufactured for the Clarges residential development in Mayfair, these bespoke stone-clad planters were developed in collaboration with Laing O'Rourke and Vetter UK. Each planter measured approximately 5m long and was required to support substantial stone cladding whilst maintaining a clean, seamless external appearance.
The internal structure was fabricated from 8mm thick 100mm x 100mm hot dipped galvanised steel box section, providing the strength and rigidity required to support stone panels ranging from 25mm to 50mm thick. The stone cladding was fixed to the concealed structural framework, whilst bronze sheet metal trims were incorporated to create a refined finished appearance and ensure the supporting steelwork remained completely hidden from view.
A key challenge of the project was accommodating changes in site level whilst maintaining a perfectly level finished planter. The structural framework was developed to follow the gradient of the installation area whilst ensuring the visible top edge remained consistent throughout the length of the planter.
In addition to the supporting structure, bespoke powder coated steel planting liners were manufactured and integrated within the planters. These incorporated dedicated IP-rated enclosures housing both the LED lighting drivers and the irrigation equipment, allowing essential services to be concealed within the finished installation.
