The Centrepoint Building, London

Personally one of our favourite commissions, this project forms part of the ongoing numerous works we have completed at one of London's most iconic landmark buildings.

About the project

We often have to come up with a practical solution based on the slightest of design briefs and this project illustrates this perfectly. A planter that floats above ground, connected to the buildings structural steel frame, all in polished stainless steel, with no visible fixings.

Our solution was broken into 3 main parts. The tubular structural support was not particularly attractive so we firstly fabricated a column casing in stainless steel. This consists of 2 sections formed to make two halves the same radius as the structural tube, which is then chemically fixed into place. This calls for absolute precision using the very latest in CNC machinery.

Secondly, we developed a lattice support frame that would support the weight of the planter. This was made from heavy flat steel and used a clamp system around the vertical column holding it securely and invisibly in place.

The stainless steel planter itself was made to sit on the lattice support frame with an opening at the back for installation. A panel was then invisibly fixed in the rear completing the job and concealing all fixings. The finished scheme was both simple and effective concealing the huge amount of hard work that lies beneath.
