Granite clad infinity water features supported by precision fabricated stainless steel structures, manufactured for a private garden in Kensington, London.
About the project
Working with designer Matthew Wilson Gardens, we manufactured the structural stainless steel components for these granite clad water features in Kensington, with much of the fabricated steelwork concealed beneath the finished stone surfaces.
Each granite slab was supported on a fabricated 5mm thick stainless steel box section frame. The frames were supplied directly to the quarry, where they formed the structural support for the stone while also providing a secure means of transporting the completed slabs to site. Each assembly was then craned onto a 3mm thick watertight stainless steel tray supported on block foundations.
The infinity edge required a very shallow and consistent depth of water across the granite surface. Maintaining an exceptionally flat supporting structure was therefore critical to achieving an even flow across the completed feature.
The steelwork was laser levelled throughout fabrication to control flatness to within 0.5mm. All components were manufactured from 316 grade stainless steel with coded welding used throughout.
