The Poetry Lovers Garden
Chelsea 2017

Three complex stainless steel structures developed for The Poetry Lover’s Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, translating the designer’s concept into fully realised fabricated elements.

About the project

The Poetry Lover’s Garden marked designer Fiona Cadwallader’s debut at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. While traditional in overall style, the scheme incorporated three contemporary metal elements, developed and fabricated in stainless steel to deliver the original design intent.

The central water feature was formed to resemble a paper scroll, requiring the creation of a complex undulating geometry alongside a seamless surface finish. A concealed system was developed to circulate water without disrupting the visual form. The accompanying chaise longue and gate were both highly engineered assemblies, comprising numerous precision-manufactured components.

Each element required detailed fabrication and hand finishing to achieve the required standard, with all parts meticulously welded and polished. The completed garden was awarded a Silver Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
