About the project

Manufactured for a Crown Estate-owned retail property on the corner of Regent Street and Charles II Street, these bespoke planters were developed to provide a durable architectural feature whilst maintaining the precise detailing required by the surrounding building façade.

The planter bodies were fabricated from 3mm patinated bronze and fitted with removable stainless steel planting liners. Each unit was mounted on a sloping plinth, allowing the planters to follow the gradient of the pavement whilst maintaining a perfectly level top edge throughout the installation.

A key challenge of the project was the requirement for sharp knife-edge corners to the relief profile on the front elevations. Folding the bronze would have introduced visible radii to the corners, preventing the crisp appearance specified by the design. Instead, each panel was manufactured from multiple individual components which were welded together and polished to achieve seamless 90-degree intersections throughout the façade.

The installation also required the planters to be secured without direct fixings into the building. A concealed tension fixing system was therefore developed, allowing each planter to be securely restrained whilst maintaining a clean external appearance. Removable access panels were incorporated to conceal the fixing arrangement and allow future maintenance where required.
