Flue Screens
Greenford

Corten steel flue screens incorporating decorative laser cut panels and a concealed structural framework for the Greenford Quay development in Ealing, London.

About the project

Manufactured in collaboration with Maylim Limited, these bespoke flue screens were developed to conceal plant and service infrastructure within the Greenford Quay development in Ealing, London. Two screens were produced, each measuring approximately 8.5m long x 3.0m wide x 4.2m high.

The supporting structure was fabricated from mild steel and clad with a total of 32 decorative laser cut Corten steel panels. The screens were designed to provide effective visual screening whilst maintaining airflow and ventilation to the equipment housed behind.

A key feature of the project was the development of the laser cut pattern. The perforation density was carefully varied across the height of each screen, creating a façade that remained visually solid at lower levels whilst becoming progressively more open higher up the structure. This approach concealed the plant equipment where required whilst allowing light and airflow to pass through the upper sections of the screens.

Due to the overall size of the structures, each screen was manufactured in two sections for transportation and installation. The completed units were delivered to site and craned into position as part of the wider Greenford Quay development.
