About the project

Working with Blu-3, we manufactured the Corten steel cladding for the entrance and exit ramps serving the underground parking facility at the redeveloped Battersea Power Station.

Each ramp incorporated approximately 78 linear metres of cladding standing 1.1m high. The panels were fabricated from 3mm Corten weathering steel in individual lengths of up to 2.8m, with each section formed to follow the changing gradient of the ramps.

Maintaining clean and consistent joints across the long sloping elevations was a key consideration. The ends of each panel were folded to create tight seams between adjoining sections, while the external corners were fully welded and polished to produce continuous finished surfaces.

All Corten material was shot blasted before laser cutting, forming and fabrication, providing a consistent prepared surface from which the steel could develop its characteristic weathered patina.
