Galvanised Planters
Smithfield’s
Bespoke hot dipped galvanised planters manufactured for the entrance to this period building opposite Smithfield Market within the City of London.
About the project
Working in collaboration with landscape architects Publica, this project involved developing the design for a series of large scale planters positioned at the entrance to a period building forming part of St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
The planters were fabricated from 3mm thick mild steel and incorporated a wide top lip detail, drainage holes within the base and equally spaced guying points below the planting surface. A hot dipped galvanised finish was selected for its durability and suitability for a high traffic public environment, gradually developing a natural patinated appearance over time.
A key consideration within the design was the potential future relocation of the planters. Provisions were therefore incorporated to allow integrated seating elements to be added at a later stage should the layout requirements evolve.
