Galvanised Planters
St Giles Terrace
Bespoke hot dipped galvanised steel planters incorporating integrated trellis frames, manufactured for St Giles Terrace within the Barbican in the City of London.
About the project
Working in collaboration with landscape architects Publica, we manufactured six bespoke galvanised steel planters for Culture Mile BID at St Giles Terrace within the Barbican. Each planter measured 1845mm long x 1600mm wide x 500mm high.
The planters were fabricated from 3mm thick mild steel and incorporated a wide top lip detail, drainage holes within the base and equally spaced guying points below the planting surface.
A distinguishing feature of this installation was the incorporation of three trellis frames within the planters. These were integrated into the fabricated planter structures to provide support for climbing plants as part of the completed scheme.
Following fabrication, the planters and associated steelwork were hot dipped galvanised to provide a durable finish suitable for their public realm location, with the exposed surfaces developing a natural patinated appearance over time.
