Pergola
Dunstable

Bespoke steel pergola marking 1,000 years of the Priory Gardens in Dunstable, designed as an interactive structure.

About the project

Working in collaboration with the local town council, this bespoke pergola was developed to commemorate the foundation of the Priory in Dunstable. Designed as both a structural feature and an educational installation, it allows visitors to move through the space while engaging with integrated historical content.

Fabricated from mild steel, the structure was galvanised after manufacture and finished with a black leatherette powder coating to provide long-term durability and a consistent surface finish. The 12m installation comprises seven curved arches with stainless steel tensioned cables between.

Laser-cut lettering was incorporated into powder-coated angles with contrasting stainless steel backing plates, ensuring legibility over time while forming part of the overall visitor experience.
