About the project

Manufactured for Hencote Winery near Shrewsbury, the scheme included a series of bespoke Corten steel elements, with the principal feature comprising two sets of three large entrance signage panels. Each panel measured approximately 2.5m high x 1.5m wide and was fabricated from 10mm thick Corten steel.

The scale and thickness of the material presented a particular challenge when translating the detailed imagery and typography into the finished panels. Before cutting the Corten, we produced 3mm stainless steel mock-ups to test the artwork and ensure that the required detail could be successfully reproduced at full scale in the substantially thicker material.

The final panels were precision laser cut before being fabricated with welded base plates and structural bracing ribs to provide the rigidity and support required for their size and weight.

Following fabrication, the Corten steel was shot blasted and pre-weathered prior to delivery, allowing the panels to arrive on site with a consistent developed patina rather than beginning the weathering process after installation.
