Corten Water Features
Cambridgeshire

Bespoke Corten steel water features incorporating adjustable levelling, internal bracing and fully welded watertight construction for a private residence in Cambridgeshire.

About the project

Manufactured for a contemporary private residence in Cambridgeshire, these bespoke Corten steel water features were developed as large still-water pools requiring precise control of level, rigidity and watertight construction.

Measuring just under 3m long, approximately 0.6m wide and 0.7m high, the water features were fabricated from 3mm Corten steel. Strategic internal bracing provided the rigidity required to control the relatively thin material, whilst a closed fold to the top edge increased stiffness and created the appearance of a substantially thicker section.

A key requirement was achieving a perfectly level installation to maintain a consistent water level across the surface. Adjustable feet were incorporated beneath the flat-bottomed tanks, allowing accurate levelling on site without compromising the watertight construction.

All joints were fully welded and subsequently dye tested to verify the integrity of the completed tanks. Following fabrication, the Corten surfaces were shot blasted to accelerate the weathering process and promote a more uniform patina.
