The Macmillan Garden
Southport 2018

Bespoke Rhythm Line brass sculpture incorporating laser-cut donor testimonials and heartbeat symbols.

About the project

Working closely with garden designer Jason O'Donnell, we manufactured a bespoke Rhythm Line brass sculpture for the Macmillan Cancer Support Legacy Garden at Southport Flower Show 2018. Fabricated from brass flat bar, the sculpture incorporated laser-cut text and symbolic details throughout its length.

Developed as a continuous flowing form running through the garden, the sculpture began as a single ribbon before dividing into two Rhythm Lines. Manufactured from brass flat bar sections, each component was welded and polished to achieve a seamless appearance whilst maintaining the geometry specified within the design.

A key challenge of the project was creating the appearance of a floating structure without visible supports. Using a fully developed three-dimensional model, the geometry of the sculpture was coordinated so that the intersecting forms provided structural stability whilst maintaining the clean visual lines intended by the designer.
