Hand Rails
Farnborough
Bespoke galvanised steel handrails incorporating hardwood top rails, manufactured to match existing metalwork at a Listed Art Deco building in Farnborough.
About the project
Manufactured for The Hub at Farnborough Business Park, these bespoke handrails were developed for a new access ramp leading to the entrance of the Listed 1930s Art Deco building. The new metalwork was required to match the existing handrails already installed across the frontage whilst accommodating hardwood top rails manufactured separately by a specialist contractor.
The handrails were fabricated from heavy mild steel sections, with the dimensions, proportions and detailing developed to replicate the existing metalwork. Particular attention was required at the interfaces between the new and existing handrails to ensure the separate sections connected accurately and maintained a consistent appearance across the completed installation.
A key requirement of the project was the integration of the hardwood top rails. The steel structure had to accommodate these separately manufactured components whilst maintaining the alignment and geometry of the handrail system along the sloping access ramp.
Following fabrication, the steelwork was hot dipped galvanised to provide long-term corrosion protection and to achieve a finish consistent with the existing handrails surrounding the building.
