Terrace Screens and Planters
Mayfair
Powder coated steel planters incorporating privacy screens, concealed services and integrated lighting for six residential terraces at Clarges in Mayfair.
About the project
Manufactured for Laing O’Rourke as part of the Clarges residential development in Mayfair, this project comprised bespoke steel planters for six external terraces. Each terrace incorporated seven individual planters, including balustrade planters and back-to-back divider planters with integrated privacy screens.
The balustrade planters were manufactured with stepped bases and incorporated concealed LED lighting. Powder coated steel planting liners were integrated within each unit, together with controlled drainage and IP65-rated enclosures housing the lighting drivers and irrigation equipment.
A key challenge was the development of the divider planters and integral privacy screens to withstand significant wind loading at terrace level. The screens measured 1250mm high and up to 2.6m wide, combining toughened frosted glass within a steel frame with decorative laser cut steel panels positioned on either side.
The laser cut pattern was coordinated with architectural detailing used elsewhere within the development, while the completed steelwork was finished in an anodic bronze powder coating.
